XP and Loot don't interest me in the slightest, but I can understand that for the new generation of gamers (and I guess also old gamers who have taken a like to it), it's become important, that's just not my case. In all the multiplayer games that I've played in my life (Warcraft 2, Quake 3, Red Alert 2, Warcraft 3, Counter Strike, Sauerbraten.), there's never been a reward for my matches. I just don't mind ^^Īs for the rewards, I've never really cared either.
Usually when the queues are long (5-10 minutes), I just launch the search for the game, ALT+TAB out, and browse internet / do other stuff, until I hear a game has been found.
Hehe, well it's mostly that I don't care about all the stuff you mention ^^ Could be 1 more loot box, could be 10000, not very motivating. But without that you can't work towards anything specific, because with 100% randomness there's a decent chance you'll never get that one item you want. Even with the randomness of loot boxes, you could at least be like "I need 300 shards to buy this one item I really want, every loot box has a certain chance to give me shards, so I need to open about this many boxes to get my item". It used to be that you could at least buy armor parts and weapons with shards, but for some reason they changed that a while back.īeing able to buy items directly with currency you can earn ingame motivates players to play more by giving them specific goals to work towards. Overwatch lootboxes for example are random as well, but at least some of them drop a currency (and duplicates give currency) with which you then can unlock just about every non-event item in the game. There's too much down time between matches.Īnd it sucks that every cosmetic item in the game is unlocked randomly and you have zero control over which ones you unlock first. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I had the same problem with Overwatch, which is really popular, so maybe it's just me but had to get this off my chest.
I almost regret having bought the Champions Pack because at least then I would have something to work towards. It's the worst of both worlds in this regard. QC has both a lot of downtime and nothing to work towards. Even if there is nothing like that (like the original quake and unreal games), they at least have map rotations and servers and put you into a new game quickly so don't have to wait to play more. In many games like this you gain currency from playing that you can spend on specific things you want or they have specific level rewards to play for. I feel like I am never really working towards anything because all of those rewards are random. When you have the Champions pack, you can't purchase anything specific with any of the currency earned through gameplay (daily plat is not gameplay). Every reward you get is random, well except for runes, but getting them to begin with is random.
Dailies take a single (sometimes two) bot match to finish all of them and getting single backpack as a reward is not satisfying. You spend so much time not playing the game. After i finish a game, I have to wait again before I can play more. Getting into matches takes time, choosing a map takes time. It takes forever to load up the game even on an SSD. I'll preface this by saying that I really love the gameplay in Quake Champions and all the game modes, I even like the abilities in most modes (not duel and instagib).Įvery game I've been hooked on before has been hard to put down when I start playing it, but even though I really like QC, I feel like it's doing everything it can to make me stop playing.
